I am on week 14! This week completely flew by. I can only hope the rest of my pregnancy flies by like that. I even forgot to take my bump picture until about 5 days in. I ended up taking it after a large delicious meal at The Cheesecake Factory, including my typical Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake. Yes, I am a chocoholic. The baby is officially the size of a peach this week and is as tall as a crayon.

A Few Week 14 Highlights

Activity Level

I had a tough time working out at the beginning of the week due to sciatica (more on that later). I made the mistake of running last Tuesday and it really acted it up. Of course it felt fine during the run, but after, not so much. I have really put in the time and effort to do stretches and exercises to make the sciatica go away. Thankfully, they have been working as of now.

This week

Days of Strength Training: 3

I am so proud I found time to get in all 3 workouts this week with my sciatica issues. This was my first week in Phase 2 of my workouts! I am using muscles I didn’t use as often in Phase 1, so my muscles are a little sore this week. I did a bicep and back day yesterday, and you guessed it, my biceps and back are sore today. It’s a good feeling though as I’ve learned not to workout too hard on week 1 of a phase to ease my body into it. My husband will be going to the store this week to get 10lb weights for me, so I can increase my weights on some of the workouts. I call that a success!

Days of Cardio: 1 (1 running)

Running Distance: 2.67 miles at 12:44 pace (-.01 miles, +0:30 pace) – includes warm-up and cool down. I had a little issue with my hair while running, so I hurt my pace. Turns out I hate running with short hair hitting the back of my head, so I’ve changed it to a bun.

Weight

Pre-pregnancy: +0.2lbs

This week: +0.2lbs

Symptoms

Strong Sense of Smell

I’ve had more sense of smell this pregnancy than my first. I swear I can smell my own sweat at times (It’s the only thing I can think it is). I’m going through another burst of smelling awful things that my husband tells me don’t exist. Either way, I will be cleaning the couches again and spraying them to make sure.

I could never stand the smell of cigarette smoke before pregnancy, but now it’s even worse. I can’t help but use my hands to get the smell out of my nose when I walk by someone. Honestly, they’re usually too close to a store or public building anyway, so I don’t care. I just wish they would ban it from all public places, even parking lots. Please don’t smoke. It’s disgusting.

Increased Appetite

Oh hello appetite. I have my old appetite back and then some. It’s been very hard for me to keep eating healthy, but I am trying to moderate myself. I ate much more junk food this week than past weeks, but am focusing on fruit smoothies to keep myself in check and full at night.

A Bump

Umm… so as you can tell in my bump picture, I clearly have a bump now. I mean, that bump was after pizza and cheesecake, so I hope there was a little food baby there too. When going for a run around the neighborhood, I catch neighbors watching me more closely than normal because I have a bump. I like to think that they are supportive of me running through pregnancy, but they’re probably judging. Especially the guy who legit stopped mid-turn to stare. People will be people, but I am incredibly proud of the exercise I have been getting and how I feel. My husband has been incredibly supportive as well making sure I can get my weekly run in before it gets dark, even if that means he can’t mow the lawn that day.

Sciatica

Sciatica, sciatica. How I loathe you. Sciatica continued to be an issue this week. I’ve learned a few of my triggers that act it up such as sitting on the floor, squatting down to the ground, and lifting up Leah multiple times a day. I try to do those as little as possible, but as a stay at home mom, it’s been hard. I’m always playing with Leah on the floor, picking up everything she drops, and picking up Leah to put her in bed, car, etc.

I’ve went back to the stretches and exercises I did from physical therapy during my first pregnancy. I knew I kept those papers with them listed for a reason! I also started foam rolling again, focusing on my butt and IT band. It’s always helped prior to pregnancy, but I was never sure if it was okay to do during pregnancy. I’ve read up on it this time around and it is perfectly fine to do. I still feel my sciatica every day at some point, but this has been helping tremendously so far.

Cravings and Aversions

Cravings

I haven’t had really any actual cravings this week, but here is what I have been eating:

  • Homemade fruit berry smoothies
  • Cracker and cheese packs
  • Fried dough (I still haven’t found any yet)

Aversions
  • Eggs – I still have not cooked with them, but I think it might be better now
  • Anything with a strong smell

Sharing is caring!

I remember all these feelings and so many more. I wish I could of worked out more and took better care of myself. You are doing a great job!

Thank you Susie! I am working hard on it for the same reason. I was terrible the first time being pregnant and gained almost 50% of my body weight. I am so determined to not let that happen again!

You look great for 14 weeks! It can be tough to feel so great just know your growing a human and give yourself some grace!! It does go by super fast!

Thank you Ivy! I am hoping it goes by super fast this time. When I was pregnant with my first, I was just miserable and felt like I was pregnant forever!

Girl good for you getting those workouts in! I think I went to prenatal yoga twice my whole pregnancy, that was the extent of my exercise. Hope your sciatica gets better for you!

Ugh, sciatica is seriously THE. WORST.

I think you worked out more this week than I did in my entire pregnancy, though, so MAJOR kudos there!

What's your favorite part about being pregnant?
