Being a new mom is hard. Even if it’s not your first child, there are new challenges faced with multiple children.

At times you may feel at a loss on how to provide mom advice when you haven’t been in the same situation or have no idea how to support a new mom.

The struggle is even harder if you live far away as the distance prevents you from the normal everyday ways to help.

The truth is there are plenty of ways to help a new mom through the postpartum phase and even throughout the newborn’s first year.

You can give the best gifts they need the most through a difficult time no matter where you live.

Here are 3 thoughtful things you can do to help a new mom for not only the baby, for the glowing mom herself.

1. Be a Shoulder to Lean On

You may live far away, but technology is better than ever before. You can video chat, call on your phone, or even send inspiring text messages.

Just be there to lend an ear to the venting and provide the support they need.

She may seem resilient at first to vent and feel like she is failing as a new mom. This is your time to step in and ask proving questions to get her to talk.

If you are also a mom, provide your stories about the tough newborn times you’ve been through to empathize with her and sympathize through the rest.

Do not brag about how your child slept through the night by month 3 or was never colicky. Those stories will only discourage her.

She will learn quickly you are there to support her and be non-judgmental.

2. Buy Her Groceries / Send Food

I know what you’re thinking… you live out of state. How can you help a new mom with food from that much of a distance?

10 years ago, it may not have been possible, but now there are online options to pick out groceries, pay online or over the phone, and have everything delivered right to their door.

When buying groceries, keep in mind how tiring the newborn phase can be. Choose easy-to-make or even prepared foods to make dinner time a breeze.

3. Send the Most Useful Care Package Imaginable

This is arguably the best way to support a new mom from a distance. The keyword here is useful. As a newborn grows, mom and baby will need new stuff.

The hardest part is thinking of thoughtful things to provide during each stage. What do they really need the most? Do I send things just for the baby or what can I send for mom as well?

The Moment in a Box Club has solved all of that. This subscription box was created by moms for moms just us. Boxes start a month prior to the new mom’s delivery date to prepare them for the postpartum phase and give the necessities a baby needs from day one.

Each month, a new box is delivered and grows with the mother and baby. It includes 4-6 FULL SIZE PRODUCTS (Yep! None of those crappy samples those other boxes give) for both the baby and the mom. Oh, and the box is worth more than what you pay!

Products can range from books, educational toys, diapering and bath products, to surprises for the new mom!

A Real Look at the Moment in a Box Club

The Moment in a Box Club provided me with a complimentary subscription to give an honest review for you and is offering an amazing deal for Journey to SAHM readers!

The box I received is all about being ready for the postpartum phase as I am about a month away from my due date.

It included a little note describing what each product is for and how it can be used. I loved this thoughtful idea as I wouldn’t have known the nursing cover could be used in so many ways!

It even included a super cute mug to prepare me for the baby! I don’t drink coffee but am a hot cocoa fanatic. This will get me through the current -20 degrees windchill here in New York.

The only con I have been able to find so far is the price. Although I love the contents of the boxes and it’s worth more what than you pay, it can get a bit pricey for 6-12 month subscription when on a budget.

I will be receiving future boxes from Moment in the Box and sharing all the fun stuff included (along with pictures of my soon-to-be handsome son) on Instagram, so be sure to check out my page and follow along!

If you know someone who is expecting or just had their baby, I encourage you to check out the Moment in the Box Club to make them feel special no matter how far you live from them (or if you just want to spoil yourself)!

Great ideas! I will never forget when a friend, not even a close friend, brought me by a food package and a can of formula because I my milk supply was not coming in. It was the best gift ever.
