I love getting outside with my 2 year old. She loves chalking, playing with her water table, and even gardening with us. It all fun and games, except that’s just it. They’re not games.
We have a lot of fun outside, but outdoor games for toddlers create a new educational level of developing coordination, patience, and well… having fun.
I was determined to find some games she can play at 2 years old, but they weren’t easy to find. I even asked friends and a lot of them were naming hopscotch and games a 2 year old just isn’t coordinated for yet.
So I decided to put together a list of the top outdoor games for toddlers to make your job easier and make it a summer to remember.
If you haven’t already, check out my post on the Best Toddler Games for 2 Year Olds that includes some great board games to play!

Did you know a 2 year old could play golf? My daughter owns this set and loves pushing the golf balls with the clubs. She also loves putting the balls in the golf cart.
You can play this game inside during the winter, but is a great one to play outdoors. They will love playing alongside if you or your husband play golf.
Melissa & Doug Sunny Patch Dilly Dally Turtle Target Action Game
I think of this one as bean bag toss meets darts. Your child will throw a bean bag at the turtle. Whichever number it lands on is the score. This is another one of those perfect outside games for toddlers, especially ones who love animals.
The cute turtle makes this game even better. Your child will have a blast throwing the bean bags and watching them stick. Make it a game to see if they can hit the target!
Ring Toss Games for Kids
This game is perfect for indoors and outdoors. Your child will throw or place the rings on the animals. Each ring has a different color and number. This game will help your child name the colors and learn to count.
It is set to grow with your child as they will learn to play farther away and throw the rope onto the animals as they get older.
Yes, another Little Tikes game and not the last. Little Tikes is known for their quality and durability. T-Ball is a great first sports game to play with a 2 year old. Just place the ball on top of the T and let your child hit the ball.
This set comes with 5 balls so you can keep hitting them without needing to pick them up continuously. My daughter loves her T-Ball set. It takes her some time to hit the ball, but she gets so excited when she does.
It’s also been helping with her hand-eye coordination. You honestly can’t have a top outdoor games for toddlers article without T-Ball. Every child needs one!
Little Tikes EasyScore Basketball Set
This set is for ages 1 ½ to 5 years old. It has an adjustable height so you can change it from 2-4 feet. It’s one of those outdoor games for toddlers that will grow with them.
This basketball set will help with motor skills, and since it’s made by Little Tikes, you know it’s a quality set.
Kidoozie Pop-Up Basketball Game
This is a fun take on basketball meets skeeball. Throw the ball into the basket and watch it fall into a hole with a score. There is no need to keep score, but it is a great hand-eye coordination game.
It’s also fun to guess which color it will fall into!
This is perfect for those who love to play badminton in their backyard. Now you can include your toddler while you’re playing!
At 2 years old, they may not be able to hit the birdies included, but they will love playing alongside you and the rest of the family using their own racket.
Melissa & Doug K’s Kids Bowling Friends Play Set
Another Melissa & Doug toy and for good reason! They make such quality toys and activities. I have been so impressed with all of the toys my daughter has from them. This toy works best on a deck or sidewalk, but is a great first start at bowling.
Set up the 6 pins and throw the ball at them to knock them down. The pins are all different animals to make it cute and colorful. Your child will love naming all of the animals and colors too!
Ideas In Life Bean Bag Toss Game
Here is a new way to play bean bag toss! If this reminds you of a carnival game, you’re right. Set up the 10 cans and simply throw the bean bags at them to knock them down. Toddlers love knocking things down, so expect extra laughs!
The best part? This one is just as fun while the kids are sleeping for the adults. There are no weighted milk jugs to stump you this time.
