January Blog Income Report 2019 – It’s 2019, which means a new year for blogging! I love putting together these reports to show my readers an inside view of what blogging is really like.

My income reports always include, well income, but I also include expenses.

Something I’ve noticed when looking at the majority of income reports is the lack of expenses shown. Do you really think some bloggers make thousands of dollars a month, but pay nothing to keep their blog up?

They don’t. They could spend up to 50% of the income on expenses. Yep!

Looking to Start A Blog?

If you’ve been thinking about starting a blog, now is the time to do it! You don’t need to sit on the idea for 6 months before you make the decision.

I honestly had been contemplating it for a little bit and one day decided, why not?

I researched for 2 days on how to buy a blog, bought my domain, and then launched it 3 days later with 2 posts.

I’ll make it easy for you. Bluehost has a current deal where you can pay just $3.95/month to host your website (that’s insane!).

It also includes a free SSL certificate (it makes your site a HTTPS instead of HTTP, so it’s more secure).

Other hosts tend to charge for that. With last year’s Google update, all sites without a SSL certificate are marked as non-secure and can be penalized from ranking on Google.

I personally use Bluehost and love it! It’s so easy to use and I even have my own domain emails (@journeytosahm.com). That part is free too!

Air frying completely took over my site in January. Most people look for ways to get healthy at the beginning of the year with their New Year resolutions. Apparently a lot of those people have air fryers or received them for Christmas.

My Pinterest views are continuing to increase as I use my free Tailwind strategy. As I see most bloggers saying their views are dropping, mine are still climbing. I am currently at 1.3 million.

It only takes 1 hour a month through Tailwind to help your views. Think about all the time you would have to actually write content and learn more about blogging!

Speaking of Tailwind, I can give you 100 free pins to make sure it is right for you. It’ll also help you through the free guide to make sure it’s right for you.

Sign up for the Tailwind strategy guide below while it’s still free. I’ve already heard great feedback from other bloggers on how it’s helped increased their views!

Mallaury said “My views QUADRUPLED. I reached 1M on my own manually pinning but after a couple of months my strategy stopped working. My traffic went for 2500-3k per day down to like 500-700. Then I tried your strategy. And within 2 weeks, my views are back up to 2k+ a day. Of course with this comes a ton of affiliate sales!”

Income Report

Income: $869.37

Affiliate Income: $244.05

I expected this to drop much more than it did. December saw an all-time high with the holiday season. It goes to show using the tactics from Affiliate Marketing for Bloggers is really working and had nothing to do with the holidays.

The best part is there’s currently an amazing deal (I am very jealous) going on with that course. If you buy Pinteresting Strategies to increase your Pinterest viewers, you can get a HUGE discount on Affiliate Marketing for Bloggers.

Usually both courses would cost $126 total, but you can get them BOTH for just $85 right now using this special link.

Pinteresting Strategies was my very first course I took when I started blogging and helped get my Pinterest account on the map. I just recently finished Affiliate Marketing for Bloggers back in November and have been in love with it since I started it.

You get to learn how to manually pin (it’s a free process!) AND earn money from Affiliate Marketing. I would say it doesn’t get any better than that, but it does.

You can actually finish the courses and become an AFFILIATE to them! With all the information you learn in the courses, you’ll make your money back in no time not only from what you learn, but sharing the information with others (I did)!

It’s only on sale for a limited time, so I recommend buying it now before the price goes back up.

Ad Income: $550.82

I have been in love with Mediavine ever since I switched over in mid-December. They are so quick to answer questions and help you get the most for your money.

My January page view RPM was $9.67 (amount per 1K page views). January tends to see the lowest RPMs all year, so I expect this number to increase as the year goes on.

Although I expect my RPM to go up, I still expect my page views to drop in February.

Sponsored Posts/Products: $74.50

I don’t spend too much time on sponsored posts. I only work with brands who I love and know my readers will love as well, but I did work with 1 or 2 brands recently and made a little income from it in January.

Expenses: $169.99

Yes, monthly expenses are something to expect when making money blogging. As you make more money, the expenses can go up. It makes complete sense and it’s worth it.

Short Pixel: $19.99

The beginning of January brought awareness of how slow my site was. I had too many plugins activated, too many unneeded high quality pictures, and no caching.

I learned pretty quickly I needed a way to compress my photos. Short Pixel optimizes and compresses the size of an image much more than those free programs out there. I saw a change in my page speed as soon as I applied it to all my photos.

Page speed helps with both SEO and page views since some people may abandon the webpage before it actually loads.

There’s two payment options available. I recommend the one-time plan for 30,000 images, which is what I purchased as well. It’s only $19.99 and allows you to compress all images and thumbnails on your site and going forward for years to come.

You also get 100 free images a month AND 100 more free images with this link.

Tech Expenses: $50.00

I continued on my mission to improve my page speed and hired a tech guy to help out.

He installed the premium version of WP Rocket for caching and configured everything for that plugin and others to increase my page speed. Definitely worth it. It took me about 20 minutes of communication with him instead of about 2 days just trying to figure out what the heck I was doing.

Virtual Assistant: $100

I hired my first virtual assistant to start in February! I am expecting our son on February 12 and will need a little extra help with tasks I will fall behind with and wanted to focus on.

It’s only a few hours a month, but I am excited to see what comes out of this partnership!

Total: $699.38

How Did January Goals Go?

Get February Posts Ready to Go – Did not hit. At the point you are reading this post, I only have one more post to complete for February to be complete. Then I will be right on to working on March as much as possible before the baby comes!

Set up 2-3 Guest Posters for February – Hit. 2-3 posts? Yes, I do have that prepared for February, but I have a total of 6 guest posts set up through February and March for my readers. Trust me, you’re going to love them!

Be Prepared as Much as Possible Before the Baby Gets Here (I’m due Feb. 12!) – Hit. Or at least I hope so. Baby still isn’t here, so I have a little more time. I’m just not sure how much time that is. I will be working as hard as possible to be ahead of everything.

Hi Samantha, I came here by clicking one of your pins on Tailwind and I'm glad I'm not being disappointed. Congratulations on your traffic and income growth. If you keep this spirit, your blog will see no limit.

And, oh the baby. What a joy. I have 3 at the moment so I know the feelings. I bookmarked your blog. You just got for yourself one repeat reader ;)

Thank you Enstine! I'm sure 3 is a challenge. It's been tough getting in time this month since he was born (early), but I am determined to keep it up!

Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing the details of your income. Of course, you're doing REALLY well! But there's always that nagging feeling like, "But what if everyone else is doing better, and this is going to look ridiculous?" I'm not sure if you felt that at all, but I know I would.
